The Wiltshire Golf Partnership (WGP) is an organisation formed by representatives of the Mens and Ladies Golf Unions and the PGA and volunteers from various spheres of golf.
The prime objective of the Partnership is to attract people of all ages into the game of golf, and to assist clubs in achieving the same aim.
WGP was formed in 2007, after consultation with Wiltshire’s clubs, and over a period of time, has evolved into three main strands of operation:
- Player Development – finding youngsters who are promising, but have not reached the stage of being in a county squad, and coaching them to their best ability.
- Coach Development – a programme designed to help Pro’s and their Assistants to become ‘better’ coaches, so that they too, are able to assist in the task of getting people into the game of golf. Training is also available for mainstream golfers who wish to help in some capacity.
- Core Development – this is all about helping clubs to attract and retain members, through the achievement of Golfmark, running of taster sessions, and trying to get golf into the minds of likely customers.
Funding is through the national body, The English Golf Partnership, who also provide the direction for the Partnership through a network of Regional Development Officers. The WGP employ a County Development Officer, who is the WGP point of contact, and is available at the website address: www.wiltshiregolfpartnership.com
