All four Wiltshire players made the cut at the Brabazon Trophy, the most prestigious strokeplay event in English Golf. After the first day of strong winds, "carnage" as Josh Loughrey described it, only one player was under par, Neil Raymond, from Hampshire who went on to win the event.
Wiltshire players had mixed results on the first day, Ben Loughrey best with a 74, Ben Stow worst with an 80. As the event progressed the difficulties of the course took their toll. On the third day, having climbed to 5th place, Josh Loughrey hit a bad tee shot on 17, chipped into a bunker, took three to get out and tapped in for a 6. Having been only 1 over at the time the shock was too great and Josh then signed for a 7 instead of the 6!
A great final day though as Ben Stow shot an amazing 64, 6 birdies and an eagle, best round of the week by 4 shots and 10 better than the CSS! The score has been officially recorded as a new course record. Following course changes last year, 68 had been set in the War Memorial Trophy and 67 on the first day of the Brabazon, so to break the record by three shots was an awesome performance. With that score Ben finished in 5th place alongside Ben Loughrey. Josh finished in 14th and Jordan Smith in 34th.
Josh's finish clinched a trophy for the Wiltshire boys. The Scrutton jug is awarded to the best aggregate scores in the Berkshire Trophy (where he was 5th) and the Brabazon.
