Wiltshire pair win West of England Foursomes

After playing in the West of England Foursomes Championship for 26 years and being in 2 previous finals, Marlborough Pro, Simon Amor has finally found a partner to help him to victory in the event, his son, 2 handicapper Ben.

15 year old Ben has been selected for the South West England training squad and in a recent match against the England Under 16 boys was the only player to win both his matches so he is clearly starting the season in form.

The Foursomes Championship has been in existence since 1926 and is played as matchplay knock out off handicap. In the final Simon and Ben played another Wiltshire Pro, Andrew Butler from Kingsdown and his partner, Steve Palmer from Sham Castle and were always in control.

In the morning round, Ben rolled in a birdie putt on the 17th to go 7 up and 3 under par to take a comfortable lead into lunch but their opponents came back strongly in the afternoon. A birdie barrage in the opening holes followed by another birdie on the stroke hole 7th reduced the defecit to 4 down but the Amors fought back with birdies on 8 and 9 to go 6 up and they then ran out the holes to secure a comfortable 6 and 5 victory.

Great golf from both sides, a fitting final to a major event and a very happy Marlborough pair.
