With Ali James winning the Searle Salver for the lwoest gross total for the day (67 + 74) and team mate James Hannam shooting two 71's to finish second individually Cumberwell were always going to be hard for the other teams to beat. James Evans was the third member of the Cumberwell team, shooting 72 in the morning but even after a disappointing 80 in the afternoon the combined total was still good enough for Cumberwell to win by 10 shots from Broome Manor.
Cumberwell will represent Wiltshire in the English Champion Club tournament at Scarcroft GC on 3-4th September.
In the Nett competition for the Combes Salver Cumberwell almost did the double but lost out to Kingsdown by a single shot. Great scoring from Kingsdown on a very difficult, windy day as the gross scores of Alan Feltham, Rick Smart and Craig Mclory of 75, 74, 73, 76, 77, 76, were good enough for 4th place gross but after taking off their handicaps of 3, 1 and 5 elevated them to the winning position.
CSS for the day was 71 in the morning and 71 (reductions only) in the afternoon.
Many thanks to Chippenham for hosting the day and the fantastic condition of the greens, just beautiful to putt on and all the players comments were very positive.
