Wiltshire County Golf Union The opening hole at Kingsdown Golf Club

Sam Matton turns Pro

After a distinguished amateur career that saw him win the County Championship, County Matchplay Championship twice, The Duncan Putter and the Parman Cup, and after representing Wiltshire at every level, including playing in three successive County Finals, Sam Matton is now trying his hand in the Professional ranks.

Currently wintering in Florida Sam is playing on the OGA Tour based around Orlando and played his first event on 18th February. Not having played the course for 3 years, and without a practice round, Sam shot a two under par 69 to claim fourth spot and his first cheque for $204! Well, it is a start!

Sam will return to the UK to qualify to play on the Europro Tour as a route to the Challenge Tour and his ultimate ambition of playing on the full European Tour.

I am sure everyone in Wiltshire will be wishing Sam well and you can follow his progress in America on this website: http://www.ogatour.org/index.html or on Sam's own website at http://sammatton.com/
