A huge thank you to High Post for hosting our first AM AM Charity event. The course was fabulous and we had only one heavy shower and a beautiful day for golf. The catering team laid on an excellent carvery and our sponsors donated some wonderful prizes that allowed us to raise £2,700 for the On Course Foundation. The On Course Foundation was set up by John Simpson, a former manager of Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, Greg Norman and Bernhard Langer and seeks to rehabilitate injured soldiers through the game of golf. The work of the Foundation is described on their website: http://oncoursefoundation.com/ and the stories of the servicemen who have been helped by the Foundation are inspirational. Accepting the cheque on behalf of On Course was Richard Cross, a former member of the Air Force parachute display team until an accident left him with 15 broken bones, a ruptured artery and brain and eye damage. He was a great sportsman before his accident and the game of golf has given him the opportunity to keep playing competitive sport. Four years on from his accident and watch him off his 16 handicap! Birdies on the 2nd and 3rd and long straight drives and deadly putting are a good combination. Richard spoke passionately about how the On Course Foundation is giving badly injured service men and women a new start in life...great stuff. |

Perhaps it was fitting that the winning team from Wrag Barn were all ex servicemen. Congratulations to Mike Inskip, Ivor Whinney, Steve Griffiths and Brian Rose with a fantastic score of 27 under par! Wrag Barn also win the Ron Buthlay Cup for the best score by a club side. An amazing card and people have asked me how they did it so it is reproduced below. The Wrag Barn team are off to Woodhall Spa as a prize, rated the 19th best course in the world...have a great day out boys. Immediate past Senior's Captain, Mike Saunders put in a team who finished runners up. Playing with Mike were Mike Strong, Theo Strong and Paul Hood, Mike's team finished 22 under par with 118, three points ahead of the host club with President, Colin Matthews and Captain Ron Heron maximising home advantage. Other winners on the day, Jan West won the prize draw for a brand new Callaway Razr Hawk Driver. (The draw raised £390 on the day). Nearest the pin winners were: Mike Williams on the 4th (a Titelist trolley bag), Paul Day on the 11th (a Benross carry bag) and Tom Hepple on the 17th (a tour of the Wadworth brewery). |
