Kingsdown and Cumberwell provided two immaculately prepared courses for the 72 hole County Championship but some tough pin positions and difficult breezy conditions prevented the players from shooting really low scores.

Leading after the first day at Kingsdown, Tom Burley shot two rounds of 3 under par 69 to finish 3 ahead of Nick Mumford, who was taking a break from caddying on the European Tour to play in the Championship. Nick's opening round of 68 eventually proved to be the low round of the 2 days winning him the Swift Cup.

Also on the first day the Colts Championship was decided with Josh Loughrey shooting 1 under par for the two rounds to win by 2 shots from Ben Stow.

On day 2, a steady score of 73 in the third round kept Tom just ahead of the chasing pack, one of the strongest fields ever assembled for the Championship. Making steady progress, Ben Loughrey improved on his first round 1 over par to produce 3 rounds all of 1 under for a final 284. (Having broken his driver at the Irish Amateur the previous week, where he finished third, Ben Loughrey only used his replacement driver once on the final day playing 3 wood from many of the tees, quite a performance). Matching Ben's score at the 2 under par mark by Ben Stow shot 1 under and then 2 under at Cumberwell, so joint leaders in the clubhouse with one group left on the course.

Needing a 72 to win and a 73 to get into the playoff, Tom Burley finished agonisingly close, 1 shot outside the winning mark. Ali James, Wiltshire's immediate Past Captain, needed something special in his final round and was 3 under par at the turn but eventually finished 1 under for a 287 total.

So, a play off between the two Bens, played over the 1st, 2nd and 9th at Cumberwell. Ben Loughrey took an early lead, birdieing the 1st hole and making par on the other two. Sinking a 6 foot putt on the 2nd to stay 1 behind, Ben Stow then produced a birdie when it mattered on the third playoff hole to take the game to sudden death. Another gritty 6 footer from Ben Stow on the fourth playoff hole kept him alive after a regulation par from his opponent . On the 5th hole of the playoff, after Ben Stow's 20 foot birdie putt just missed, Ben Loughrey holed his own putt from 6 feet for a birdie 3 and the County Championship. 

A fantastic finish to the Championship and a great weekend for the Loughrey family, playing the final two rounds together, Josh and Ben are winners of the Colts and County Championships.
