Wiltshire County Golf Union The opening hole at Kingsdown Golf Club

West of England Championship

Congratulations to one of Wiltshire's rising stars, Ben Amor from Marlborough, who reached the semi final of the West of England Open Championship, only losing one down to the eventual winner, Matt Kippen of Somerset. Ben, who started the season playing off 5 is now down to 1.7 has been producing some great golf and with a little more experience will be turning his near misses into victories. So far in 2009 Ben has finished second in the Marlborough Club Championship, losing out by a single shot after an opening round of 4 under par 68, he finished 3rd in the Faldo Series under 16 age group just missing out on a trip to the final in Brazil, finished 14th in the County Championship, and in the EGU Reid Trophy for under 14's Ben finished 15th in the 3 round event. In the Reid 3 holes cost him dear, two quads and a triple bogey costing 11 shots, he played the other 51 holes in 1 under par!
Back to school now so Ben's progress may be slowed down but look out for his name in the 2010 season.
