CHANNEL LEAGUE Wiltshire U18 vs Glamorgan U18s

On Sunday 16th August 2009 the Wiltshire team arrived at the Aberdare golf club, for the final Channel League match of the season vs Glamorgan. To win this one would secure the trophy for the so far unbeaten Wiltshire team.
The boys were keen and eager to get out on the course, the weather was cool and breezy. The morning foursomes began well with Ben Stow and Jordan Smith soundly beating Jack Bush and Craig Melding 7+5, followed by a 3+2 victory for Callum Brown and Chris Stewart over Oliver Baker and John Rees. Third match Robbie Busher and Ben Hayward lost to Ryan Davis and Lewis Bishop 4+2; Danny Vallis and Ed Howell also lost 1up after a good battle against James Powlesland and Lloyd Martinson. The fifth match pair Yoshio Takeuchi and Michael Cox managed to swing the balance into Wiltshire’s favour by beating Tom Waldock and Alex Heavons 5+3.

Needing five points from the afternoon singles play began well with a sound win for team captain Ben Stow 7+5 against Craig Meldin, Jordan Smith enjoyed a tough match winning 1up at the last against Oliver Baker, Yoshio Takeuchi won the third match 3+2 over Jack Bush. Callum Brown came back from 3 down to square his match with Lloyd Martinson. Chris Stewart suffered a 7+5 defeat from Ryan Davis and Michael Cox lost to James Powlesland 3+2. Danny Vallis played well to beat John Rees 3+1; Ben Hayward sealed victory with a fine 6+5 win over Tom Waldock. Robbie Busher justified the cost of his new custom made putter by canning a 25 footer to win on the last 1up from Alex Heavons. Final match player Ed Howell had a good match losing on the last to Lewis Bishop by one.
Final result a win for Wiltshire 9 ½ to 5 ½
