Wiltshire County Golf Union The opening hole at Kingsdown Golf Club

Junior League Finals Day

The Channel League finals/Presentation day was held at The Wiltshire Golf & Country Club on Sunday 25th October.

Teams representing the five counties, Somerset, Gwent, Glamorgan, Gloucester and Wiltshire, arrived at the venue at around 9am for warm up prior to a first tee time of 10.46. Format was medal play in threes with the best five scores from each six man team to count with each team consisting of four U18s and two U16s players.

Play commenced in light rain and strong wind, tough scoring conditions but all competitors set off in good spirits.  The rain stopped around noon but the wind continued throughout the tournament leading to some high scoring, ball moving problems on the greens etc.   However all games were completed and an enjoyable time was had by all.

Wiltshire County was represented by four U18s Ben Hayward, Alex Pike, Michael Cox and Ross Dabrowski all of whose age means they will be unavailable for the 2010 squad. Our thanks to them for their sporting dedication throughout their County playing years, we wish them good luck in the future. The two U16s who made up the team were Jack Charman and Sam Attwood.

Wiltshire U18s having won the Channel League for the second year running stamped their mark by also winning the finals day by five shots, well played to them all.
