After the tragic death of Ben Enoch, one of the best players ever to come out of Cornwall, on the Thursday before the match the games were played in a sombre mood. Ben, along with his brother Rhys had recently been named in the Walker Cup Squad and had a great future in the game to look forward to. His death in a car accident on his way to compete in the Lytham Trophy had a profound effect on the players and officials in both camps.
