Sunday, 05 April, 2009 30 competitors took part in the Wiltshire Boys Championship at Bowood Golf and Country Club on Sunday 5th April. Limited to handicap 10 and below, 30 competitors played the 6890 yard course from the white tees, a tough test with a par of 72 and a Standard Scratch Score of 73. Ben Stow, the County Junior Captain, from Rushmore Golf Club produced some outstanding golf to win the Championship. A level par round of 72 in the morning was followed with a stunning 6 under par 66 in the afternoon with an eagle on the par 4 5th and 8 pars going out and 5 birdies and a single dropped shot coming in. Starting the day off a handicap of +2 Ben finished the day playing off +3 the lowest handicap he has so far achieved. Ben won the Championship by 10 shots from his nearest rival, Chris Stewart from The Wiltshire Golf and Country Club who shot consistent rounds of 73 and 75 for a 4 over par total. Third place went to local hero, and immediate past champion, Jordan Smith, from Bowood who shot 74 and 78. Ben Stow's talent has been spotted by the England selectors who included Ben in the England squad coaching sessions during the closed season and the future looks bright for this new star of Wiltshire golf. Ben is now the holder of the "Grand Slam" of Wiltshire titles adding the Junior Championship to the Colts and County Championships which he won in 2008.
