COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP + COLTS CHAMPIONSHIP
Format
The Championships are played concurrently. The County Championship is a 72-hole medal competition incorporating the Colts Championship over the first 36 holes. The competitions are played off championship/white tees in accordance with the "Conditions Relating to Wiltshire County Golf Union Competitions". The maximum size of the field is 72, played in three balls. If the number of entries exceeds 72, the higher handicaps are balloted out.
On the first day (36 holes), playing partners and starting times will be decided by a random draw within handicap bands. If the course is suitable, there will be two start points with players starting from the alternate tee for the afternoon round.
The best 33 competitors (decided by countback) on the first day will qualify for the final 36 holes of the County Championship. On the second day, all competitors will start from the first tee and will play in reverse score order - the leaders starting last. The winner shall be the competitor who returns the lowest medal gross score over 72 holes.
If there is a tie the winner will be decided by a play-off over a short course. The course will typically be 3 holes, decided at the planning meeting, and if scores are level after the 3 holes, the play off will be decided by sudden death over the same holes. If weather conditions are adverse, the Championship Committee may modify these arrangements.
The Swift Cup is presented to the competitor who has the best round in the competition. In addition, there are separate 18-hole competitions on the morning and the afternoon of the second day, which will be won by the leading competitors who do not qualify for prizes in the Championships.
Qualification
Competitors are to be members of affiliated clubs in Wiltshire and comply with the "General Regulations for Competitions" printed on the entry form. The maximum handicap for competitors on entry is 6.
Entry Fees, Trophies and Prizes
The Championship Cups, the Swift Cup and the Colts Championship Cup will be presented to the winners at the end of the competition.
Entry fees and prizes will be as determined by the Executive Committee. The entry fee is £25 for the County Championship and an additional £10 for the Colts Championship.
NOTE: The winner of the County Championship will be eligible to represent Wiltshire in the England Golf County Champions Tournament played at Woodhall Spa. A grant for contribution to the player’s expenses of £150 will be made available for this tournament.
