The SWCGA Seniors Championship was contested at Clevedon GC on 4-5th July.
Teams of 7, best 5 scores counting competed for the team prize and the chance to represent the South West in the Seniors County Finals. For the third year in succession Dorset emerged on top, winning the team prize by 16 shots. Dorset now go on to represent the South West at the County Finals, held this year at Gog Magog. Dorset also won the individual championship with John Gordon from Parkstone scoring a best of the Championship 73 on the second day to overtake Gloucestershire's Kenny Hibbit by a single shot.
Some horror stories on the course. On the first day the pin positions were the subject of much criticism from the players. Imagine Rhys Francis from Dorset arriving at the last green level par and walking off with a 10! His team mates knicknamed him "Scooter", putt...putt...putt...putt...putt. Conditions and course set up were reflected in the scoring with the CSS going up 3 shots to 75 on both days and every player questioning why the course needed to be set to it's maximum length and difficulty for a Seniors Championship.
The Wiltshire side finished in a creditable 3rd place. Paul Bloomfield was 3rd in the individual competition with 79-75 and Richard Jeffrey 5th with two 78's.
