One of the jewels in the crown of Wiltshire golf, Bowood, was the venue for the penultimate fixture of the 2011 Senior Channel League with the weather forecast to be fair and with only the occasional shower.

Following on from our previous match against Devon on 15 July the Captain was not holding out much hope of a result against one of the more powerful counties in the League however, despite this somewhat negative approach, with partner, Welsh Senior International, Paul Bloomfield (Chippenham) a half was managed in the top Foursomes match.

The rest of the team followed suit with wins for Guy Piercy and Mick Green (Marlborough) and Jim Mar-Gerrison and Michael Saunders (Tidworth) and a half from Bill Cardno (Chippenham) and Henry Burt (Salisbury).

The afternoon singles saw two matches sorted out in the park but, the rest were fairly close with wins for Bloomfield, Gegg, Cardno and Burt plus a half from Piercy and  the vital winning half point was finally secured by Mar-Gerrison, in the penultimate match.

This excellent result was undoubtedly helped by the presence and excellent support of county president Geoff Titt (West Wilts).
