On a dry day with no weather gremlins in the forecast, the senior county team took on the Channel League new boys, Cornwall at Chippenham GC. This was the last match for Wiltshire in a 6 match season that so far had yielded only one win against Glamorgan. With a team strengthened by the inclusion of, fit again, Roger Searle (High Post) and County Secretary David Lewis (Marlborough) a strong result in the morning foursomes was expected. However, in the top match Jerry Gegg and Paul Bloomfield (Chippenham)  were well beaten and Michael Saunders (Tidworth) and Jim Stent (Chippenham) lost on the 9^th. A good fight back by the three remaining pairings of Searle and Lewis, Richard Jeffery (Salisbury) and Mick Green (Marlborough) and Henry Burt (Salisbury) and Bill Cardno (Chippenham) meant that we lunched  3-2 up.

In the pm singles we looked at one stage as if we would win easily but, as the games progressed, it became apparent that the result would be decided in the last two matches. With big wins for Bloomfield, Green, Gegg and Jeffery It was down to the last two games to decide the final outcome. Unfortunately, we managed to lose one and half the other so the final result was a 7.5-7.5 draw. This means that we will finish the season in last place in the league but, notwithstanding that, this has been a year of change, improvement and consolidation and as captain, I am confident that we can, with the injection of some new blood in the new year, improve in 2012.
