Wiltshire County Golf Union The 18th at Marlborough Golf Club

Matchplay Championship

After a win against pre-tournament favourite, Josh Loughrey, in the 1st round, Chris Stewart progressed through the next two rounds against Matt Mumford and squeezed past Paul Matthews from Cumberwell on the 19th to face Yoshio Takeuchi in the final.

Only a couple of weeks before Yoshio had won the Bowood Bowl and would prove a tough opponent. One ahead on the last, with Chris played a nerveless approach to only 3 feet forcing. Yoshio's putt for a birdie failed to drop and Chris's putt was conceded to leave him a worthy winner.

Chris adds his name to a long list of past champions including 7 times winner Roger Searle and the more recent crop of Wiltshire players now in the Pro ranks, Martin Sell, Steve Surry, Miles Mackman and last year's winner, Sam Matton.

Off to University on Monday to pusue a future in the game of golf, good luck Chris and well played.

The pictures show Chris in action at Bowood in the Final of the County Matchplay and receiving the Trophy from County President, Geoff Titt.
