Despite strong winds and the threat of rain scoring in the Age Group Championships was low with 10 players in the 39 strong field returning scores level handicap or better.

Best of the early starters was 11 year old James Cooper, taking full advantage of home course knowledge to return a superb 80 off his 16 handicap.  It was a long time before the score was bettered by Jamie Amor with 75 and then another 14 year old, Charles Dunn, with a 74. 

As the lower handicaps came in towards the end of the field Charles' score was matched by Will Brown, Jamie Jobbins, Gregg Hood and Jake Vallis with the prospect of a 5 man play-off looming. But the last two groups produced some exceptional returns, Henry Pallas with a 73 to take third place and Corey Sheppard and defending champion, Ben Amor with 72's to share top spot. With the light fading and the rain starting to come down Corey and Ben set off down the 1st for a sudden death play off. Corey's approach to the green finished 20 feet away and a courageous putt just slipped past the hole for a certain 4. But Ben was up to the challenge and played the hole to perfection. A massive 320 yard drive to the right of the fairway, a beautifully controlled wedge to 10 feet and a confident putt for a birdie 3 secured the title for the second year running.

A great tournament and encouraging to see the top spots occupied by such young talent: two 14 year olds, one 15, four 16  and 3 17 year olds in the top 10. And the winner for the last two years still only 16 with further chances to extend his run in 2012 and 2013.
